Berlin Film Festival

Since my flight to Berlin was delayed for 3 hours, I took a quick nap. I actually hate flying on a private jet because this time, it took almost 20 hours just to go to Berlin! It was Victoria's first time on a private jet, so naturally all she could do was say, "wow wow wow." Even at 4 in the morning, she was jumping around. To me, it's nothing. The airplane is like my home. Steve Yoo, Director Ding, Victoria and I first flew to Astana, Kazakhstan for an oil change. It was minus 22 degree celcius! They wanted to get off the plane to take some pictures. Watching them from the inside of the plane, I could tell they were very cold. All three of them wore big down jackets,  but I walked out in just a shirt. Then we flew again to Moscow, Russia for a crew change. I learned that a crew member cannot work for a certain amount of hours because of the law. Also, we were not allowed to get off of the plane in Moscow to take pictures. Since it is their rule, I will respect it. So I took pictures from inside the plane. We were delayed for half an hour because the water froze on the wings of the plane and they had to defrost. Actually, I hate eating on the plane, especially during long flights. All you do is eat a lot, get full, and then fall asleep. That is how you gain weight so fast! Here are some pictures I took during the flight:

I got to sit in the cockpit.

Finally we arrived in Berlin. As soon as we got off the plane, many people came to welcome us and pick us up. It felt so good to be back in Berlin after a few years. I had such good memories shooting Around the World in 80 Days in Germany. Even before my car arrived to the hotel, I saw many of my fans waiting for me! It was such a wonderful welcome to beautiful Berlin. Not only were my fans there to welcome me, I immediately got a gift - a Berlin buddy bear! Even with the long flight, I went straight into two interviews. Soon, the rest of the cast of Little Big Soldier arrived and we had a big press conference. I was very impressed with how fast the translator translated the questions into English, Chinese, French and Deutch. I gave them a big thumbs up. Afterwards, I went to a Taiwan party to support new directors and actors.

Why do I love Berlin? When I was in Berlin, no matter who it was - whether it was the police, a taxi driver, restaurant owner, hotel staff - everybody helped me with whatever I needed. But it's not just me - they were even good to my stunt team. I thought it was because I was Jackie Chan, but all of my staff came back to tell me how good Berlin was to them. That will be the city that we will always love to go back to.

Since I did not have anything to do the next day until the evening, I really wanted to visit the furniture store that I went to when I was in Berlin filming Around the World in 80 Days. This is like a big shopping mall, but all have inside are stores with different kinds of furniture. Modern, baby, kitchen, everything. I went into one particular store called "Ferro". Many years ago, I bought about a dozen foldable chairs that were convenient because all you had to do was pick it up and it would fold flat. The chair was good for space and it was a very good design. However, when I brought it back to my Hong Kong office, one of my Lucky 7's sat on it and accidentally broke it! Few years later. I don't think it's the material, but maybe i left it out in the sun for too long. So I asked the owner of the store how I could fix the chairs. He immediately gave me four - right there and then. Then he told me to ship the broken chairs back to him in Germany and he would take care of it. Now that's what I call good business! I really appreciate good customer service and a good company. I left the furniture mall VERY VERY happy. No matter which business you're into - service is the most important thing. My friend bought a Canon camera in China. He managed to somehow break it. When he went to Japan to a Canon store, they gave him a new one! Now he buys every type of Canon camera. He told me that for the rest of his life he will only use Canon. See? Thats good service!

As soon as I got back to the hotel, we had to get ready for the premiere of Little Big Soldier. I was worried to see the reaction of my Berlin friends and my friends who flew in for the Berlinale International Film Festival. When I got to the theater, all I could say was "wow." All of my fans and the media were there to welcome me and the cast of Little Big Soldier". I tried my best to sign every single picture and take pictures with all of my fans - but if I did that I would never make it to the premiere! I've seen too many reporters and fans get hurt trying to take a picture or get an autograph. Please be careful - safely should always come first!

We sat down for the movie and everybody had a great reaction! I've seen the movie 1,000 times - but seeing my friends and fan's reactions makes it seem like it's my first time watching it. It was the first time Little Big Soldier was subtitled with English. Since my staff and I have been so busy, we haven't had time to sit down to review the movie with the subtitles. There were some mistakes - but everyone still loved it! Wow, I am so lucky to have fans who appreciate my hard work in movie making. When the movie finished, I went up on stage to explain a few things to the audience. That night, I went to a Hong Kong party as well. I am very supportive of other directors and actors because I still remember when I first started in the industry. A lot of people helped and supported me so I want to return the favor to the future. As long as it's for my good friends, I will be supportive. Many years ago when I was filming Shanghai Noon in Calgary, my friend Peter Chan premiere his movie The Love Letter in LA. I flew all the way from Canada to support him because it's very important to me.

Too bad I couldn't stay in Berlin for too long. The next day, we all flew to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong premiere of Little Big Soldier. Since security was so tight - the bodyguards came with me all the way to the airport in Berlin. One thing I really wanted to see, besides the furniture store - was the Berlin buddy bears. The bodyguards would not let me walk on the streets by myself, so I jumped out of the car and took a picture with the buddy bear. That makes me happy! Actually, I always wonder why I need a bodyguard. I'm so nice - nobody will attack me! But if I refuse the bodyguard service, they will be out of a job. I always tell the bodyguards to never push people. Goodbye Berlin, see you next time!

Hi Jackie! I wanted only to correct a mistake in your text. The language, which is spoken in Germany is called "Deutsch". You only missed out the "s". ;) I'm from Germany and 16 years old. Maybe you can someday visit my city in Bavaria, called Würzburg. This would be very nice! By the way, I want, that you know, that you are my role model!

Mr. Chan I am a soldier in the United Sates Army and have always been a huge fan of yours. Since I was a child I remeber watching movies like drunken Master and Rumble in the bronx and always admired that you did your own stunts. I recently took my 4y/o and 2y/o sons to see your movie "The spy next Door" and I appreciate the fact that it was clean enough and mild enough that they could enjoy. I pray the Lord's blessing on your life and hope to see you acting for years to come. God Bless
