June 4 – 5, 2009

I have work scheduled for two days in a row again. Today I filmed a television public service announcement and shot some photo stills for an anti-drug campaign. After talking with officials from the anti-drug department, I’ve learned a lot more about drugs and I now have better knowledge of it. The origin of drugs can be divided into three sources – natural drugs (drugs that are directly extracted from naturally occurring substances in plants, such as opium), composite drugs (products made from a mixture of chemicals and natural drugs), and synthetic drugs (made by combining chemicals and organic substances). Drugs that affect the central nervous system can be differentiated into the following categories: depressants (which inhibit or slow down the central nervous system and possess a calming and relaxing effect, for example opium), stimulants (which stimulate the central nervous system, making people feel very awake and excited), and hallucinogens (which make people feel like they’re seeing things that aren’t really there, leading to distorted thoughts, crazy imaginings, and tricks being played on the mind). Drugs with properties that can naturally subdue or restrain include anesthetics (which have a numbing affect on the central nervous system, but continuous use of this drug is addictive, for example opium), and psychiatric medication (which directly affects the central nervous system and acts as a stimulant or a depressant, but continuous use of this drug is also additive). Popular recreational drugs can be categorized as conventional drugs (usually drugs such as opium, heroin and others), or new-styled drugs (compared with conventional drugs, these are mainly man-made synthetic stimulants or hallucinogens such as “ice” also known as methamphetamine and Ecstasy). The International Anti-Drug day is coming soon. I think that everybody will be able to see my PSA on television soon. Hopefully everyone will take action together and join in the fight against drugs.

In the evening, I went to a very fun and entertaining Tibetan restaurant. Not only did the restaurant offer traditional Tibetan meals, they also had performances of Tibet songs and dances, revealing an enriched Tibetan culture to guests dining at the restaurant. This truly was a very meaningful meal. Lately I’ve experienced so many different kinds of restaurants with their own unique features.

In response to the government’s motto of “Welcome the World Expo, Speak of Culture, Create New Trends, Change Bad Habits”, encouraging youths to spread the philosophies of the World Expo, universalizing the general knowledge of the event, and publicizing the culture of rituals and customs, the launching ceremony for the Shanghai World Expo Recruitment of Expo Ceremonial Staff was held today. The main theme of this contest for selecting ceremonial staff was “Young World Expo, Youthful Elegance.” After the contestants go through a strict training program, they will participate at the 2009 IEF Ceremony and provide assistance with hosting honored guests, taking a step further and raising the standards for various programs at this international event.

The main theme of this event is a “Youthful World Expo” and the idea is to present the youthful elegance of China’s most outstanding youths of our current generation, and fully expose the culture of the World Expo alongside the culture of ceremonies. The culture of Chinese ceremonies will become the focus of attention for everyone in the world. As an Ambassador for the World Expo, I sang one of the Shanghai World Expo songs Cheng Shi (City) at the press conference as a way of expressing my well wishes to the China 2010 Shanghai World Expo Recruitment of Ceremonial Staff. Afterwards, the deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Hu Jinjun, presented me with a red seal that read “Ceremonial China.”

Hi Jackie, Keep up the good work. The world needs role models like yourself to fight this massive drug problem that is over taking the lives of our youth. In South Africa, where we have just received our political freedom, drugs and other forms of substance abuse is becoming a major problem. We are trying to introduce children at an early age to Martial Arts to keep them off the streets. Unfortunately, most clubs are there to make "profits" whilst teaching the art whilst some of us have been offering our services "free". hope to hear from you and your advice. With your continued and never ending efforts, to make the world informed about other countries and cultures, makes you a giant among men. Drug abuse is world wide, and also a very ancient custom. This curse is not new, but the people affected by it are. Thank you for making it known how you feel about drugs, and providing us information about the different type of drugs. Kay

Thank you, dearest Jackie for your detailed lesson about drugs, to be honest many things I did not know at all. I dream that one day people will stop taking them and only helping drugs for medical purposes will be ussed.
