I’m back in Shanghai again! This time I’ve come to attend a cultural discussion forum in Shanghai city alongside two great teachers, Zhao Benshan and professor Yu Dan. I admire them so much.

At first I thought that the nature of this forum was going to be like an interview. I never expected that this forum had such a big lineup in place. There were many university students, scholars, and cultural masters who were present below the stage in the audience. The topic we discussed at this forum was: the cultural aspirations expressed in artistry. What I mainly talked about was how believing is like a kind of power that gives you strength. I based my discussion around the concept of believing in your country and believing in yourself. I shared my thoughts with everyone that belief is a type of strength. Zhao Benshan talked about the cultural attitudes towards the persistence of truth and reality, while professor Yu Dan talked about making a promise with happiness. Every time I see professor Yu Dan, the more she talks the deeper I fall in love with her, ha ha. And each time I see Zhao Benshan, I always have so much respect for him. The person who spoke the worst during the forum was me, and I felt like there was nothing much I could say because everybody already knows everything about me from reading the newspapers or magazines over the many years.

From my point of view, I think that believing is like a kind of force that gives you strength. This is how I started 47 years ago; I believed in myself. I started from being a student at an opera school, took one step at a time and developed into an international superstar. I told everyone from my own successful experiences I’ve learned that not only do you have to believe in yourself, you must also believe in human nature, believe in kindness, believe in compassion, believe in your own country, and believe in the power of common people. At the forum, I said, “I didn’t realize how good China’s culture was until after doing ‘one round’ in the industry. Young people should respect their own culture and they should be filled with confidence towards Chinese culture.”

After attending the discussion forum, I immediately rushed to the airport and caught a flight back to Beijing. On the second day after arriving in Beijing, I found out that over 2 million people had already browsed through our discussion forum. This event was very successful, especially with the involvement of these two great masters.
