Traffic Lights Music Video

I flew to Beijing to cooperate with Mitsubishi in making a music video for the song, Traffic Lights (Hóng Lù Dēng). Why am I filming this music video? The main reason is because I know that in China 400,000 car accidents happen each year, causing over 800,000 casualties, 10% of them being children. Once, while I was shooting a commercial for Mitsubishi Corporation, we started talking about this and thought that we should do something for the young children as well. So we decided to start off with education first. Consequently, I recorded a song called Traffic Lights (Hóng Lù Dēng); I wrote down the lyrics in one of my previous diaries; now I’m filming the music video. My goal is that I want to educate and call upon young children to pay attention to road safety.

Today I filmed the music video together with the young children and wow! These children are so adorable, but working with them is honestly very hard work! Why? Mainly because we had to take into consideration the safety for these children. They kept jumping and bouncing around on the set, and getting this group of active children to settle down for a while so we could shoot the music video required quite a bit of energy. Nevertheless, if any one of them had an accident of any sort, my heart would shatter and I would be very upset because they’re all so sweet and innocent; especially the Chinese-Italian girl. She looked just like a living doll - absolutely adorable. Apart from her cute looks, she even knows how to speak Italian, English and Mandarin.

The purpose of this music video is to allow young children gain a better understanding about the importance of road safety. And to help boost their interest as well as broaden their knowledge, the whole concept of this music video is very suitable for young children; for example, using cartoons and animation techniques. In the video, I play a traffic officer.

At the moment wherever I go, I always have the Disciple members with me because not only do I want them to learn about the things that happen in front of the camera, I also want them to be familiar with the things that happen behind the scenes. Therefore, the Disciple members participated with shooting the Traffic Lights video as well.

After we finished shooting the music video, I gave out gifts to the young children. I said to them that each person gets one gift and everyone must line up in an orderly fashion. There was one kid who lined up again after receiving his gift. I asked him why he lined up again and he said that his mom told him to. Ha Ha! Young children are so naive and innocent!

Antiques and Collectors Items:

Today I met with Ma Weidu, an antiques collector and appraisal specialist, and I also looked at his collection of treasured items. Ma Weidu is an extremely knowledgeable person and I truly admire him. He’s been collecting antiques since a very young age and he is the owner of the first privately run museum in China, the Guanfu Classical Arts Museum. Mr. Ma’s collection is so impressive that there are honestly too many things for the eye to absorb; he has antique furniture, antique paintings, antique photos, and many other collectables. Among the items was a bed that director Li Hanxiang bought for four thousand dollars but he then sold it to Mr. Ma at a value of $600,000. I also saw a very interesting photo. Take a look at this picture; can you see why it’s so special and what makes it so interesting? Everyone in the photo looks just like chairman Mao and they’re all facing to the right.

Also, I saw a painting that depicted a war scene. It is very rare for Chinese people to draw a picture that portrayed war and this was the first. I can’t remember which war this painting is about. The ceiling is also very unique and beautiful, using Chinese characters to make patterns on the ceiling. I actually want to tell you more about many other things that were in the museum but I’m truly very sorry. Mr. Ma personally explained many of his collector’s items to me and unfortunately, I’ve forgotten most of them. The best I can do now is share these photos with you:

Visiting Mr. Ma’s private museum was an extremely beneficial experience. Apart from having the opportunity to see so many beautiful treasured items such as the antique furniture, calligraphy paintings and photos, I also acquired greater knowledge about China’s history and culture. The more I learn about Chinese culture, the more I love about it. Hopefully one day, I will have my own museum similar to this one, and I hope that I can learn even more things about Chinese history and culture.

Taiyuan:

We left the museum and then went to the airport to catch a flight to Taiyuan. Why did I go to Taiyuan? Let me explain. Twenty years ago, the father of one of my good friends only had $400,000 to invest and do business. Now he possesses assets worth $20 billion. Even though my friend’s father has already passed away, my friend wants to improve public welfare developments and give back to society so he established a foundation in the name of his father. And the reason why I’m in Taiyuan is to attend the launching ceremony of this foundation. The main purpose of this foundation is to provide financial aid to the widowed elderly, people with disabilities, and also reward people who have contributed towards educational and charity related causes. The foundation’s first charity project will be used towards improving the livelihoods for over 200 of the local Red Army veterans and the Eight Route Army seniors. And each year over the next ten years, the foundation will contribute $1.2 million to assist with this project.

Fuzhou:

After attending the event in Taiyuan, the next day I was on the plane again, this time to Fuzhou. The reason for going to Fuzhou was to visit the Mitsubishi car factory there. They’re manufacturing a line of cars specifically designed for China called the Zinger, and I’m the spokesperson for this car model. I don’t think there are many people in the world who have been able to cooperate with a particular brand name for over 30 years.

During the event, they broadcast a series of clips from movies that I’ve starred in over the years, including shots of the cars that were provided by Mitsubishi. But the most important thing is that Mitsubishi has supported and sponsored many of my Jackie Chan Charity Cup Races, enabling the charity event to run smoothly as planned and raise funds to help the people in need.

While I was looking around at the car factory, the manager told me that they have over 2,000 employees and the factory covered an area of 6,000 acres. They even have plans of expanding. They led me to the assembling area and showed me the car manufacturing process; I looked underneath the cars as well. Seeing Mitsubishi Corporation establishing a factory in China, China providing them with space and cheap labor, and the company bringing in new technologies and good management systems, I think this can be described as a win/win situation.

Mr Chan, I have a humble suggestion for you. Have you ever thought of remaking or re-doing the Charlie Chan Character? I mean, in a serious way. A modern way. For the first time, the character of Charlie C would be played by a Chinese man. I mean, get some really good old fashioned Mystery Scripts written. A series of Great Mystery films that would show The Great International Detective and his side kicks in a very RESPECTFUL but also HUMOROUS way. You could still have your Number One Son and a Black Assistant characters. But this time they would be portrayed as RESPECTFUL WAY. They could still be FUNNY and at times Bothersome too you. But in the end they would always be seriously HELPFUL too you in solving The Crime. Of course, You would add Your Great Martial Arts Skills too the character of Charlie Chan. I hope this is a thought that you can seriously entertain. Thank You for being You. Frank Koiner. fkoiner@yahoo.com

Jackie, I think this is wonderful. These events are so important. As a nurse, I saw one child become totally paralyzed because he was hit by a van. All children need to be very aware of their surrounding. God Bless. Love when you do these things. Love Mary
