Jones Missing Again
There is something I forgot to tell you, something that has left me feeling very upset for a good period of time. I came back to Hong Kong the day before yesterday and had two very unforgettable days. After I had a meeting with a friend, I went home and played with my two dogs for a while before going to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, I heard someone say that the two dogs were missing. My first reaction was “What? Missing?” I was honestly in shock - the news hit me out of the blue. Why did they run away?
We looked back at the video footage from the security cameras and discovered that for some unknown reason, around 3 o’clock in the morning, the main electric gates at the front door automatically opened. This was when the two dogs ran out of the property. By the time they wanted to come back home after roaming the streets, it was around 5 o’clock in the morning and everyone was still sleeping so no one opened the gates for them to come in. As a result, they left again and continued running around the streets. This time when they left, they didn’t come back. I think that no one should rely completely on electronics or computerized things because you never know when a problem will occur or when they’ll decide to malfunction.
In the morning, it wasn’t until after everyone woke up before someone noticed that the dogs were missing. We immediately called the police, made inquiries to the Agriculture and Fisheries Department to see if they had found any lost dogs roaming around, and made some other calls. As it turned out, the Agriculture and Fisheries Department found JJ but there was no sign of Jones. I had never imagined that Jones would go missing again. I’m not sure if you all still remember - my previous dog that went missing was also called Jones. I tried looking for him so many times but in the end, I never found him. After that incident, a friend of mine gave me two pups so I named one of them Jones in memory of Jones that I’d lost. And now Jones is missing again.
It’s been three days already since Jones disappeared and we still haven’t found him. I think the chances of finding him now are very slim.
Note: Jonesie was returned a few days later. To show you that Jackie has indeed been reuinted with both dogs, we took some photos on May 5th:

Travel Plans Delayed
My schedule for the past two days has been very tight and busy, and I wasn’t allowed to worry about my two dogs, so when I attended the Jackie Chan Sports opening ceremony, I couldn’t help but feel a little unhappy.
The Jackie Chan Sports opening ceremony was the day before yesterday and when it ended at 5 o’clock in the afternoon, I rushed straight to the airport. The weather was terrible with gale force winds, thunderstorms, and non-stop rain. On the way there, I kept asking if the planes could take off in this weather because if they couldn’t, then I didn’t need to be so rushed. Luckily, by the time I arrived at the airport, the signal three typhoon warning had been removed.
Although the strong wind warning had been removed, heavy rain was still falling and there was no sign of it stopping. I saw that a lot of places had surface flooding and I also noticed a lot of garbage and plastic bags being flushed along the gutter by the rain, blocking the opening of the storm water drainage system. With the garbage blocking the drains, it’s no wonder the streets are flooded. While traveling in the car, I watched as water from the rain surged towards low-lying lands, making already flooded areas even worse. I then started thinking, whenever there’s a flood, residents start blaming the government for not improving the problems that cause these floods. But then, why don’t people stop and think about how these floods happen in the first place? Why don’t they blame the people who throw their garbage in the streets, which ends up blocking the drainage system and creating the surface flooding? We should start by first improving ourselves, making sure that we throw away garbage the proper way, and regularly clear the gutters and drainage systems. If people can do this then the flooding problem will naturally be solved.
I finally arrived at the airport just after 6:00 P.M. For this trip, I deliberately asked my assistants not to come with me because I wanted to do this trip alone. I carried a bag on my back and inside it I had my brand new camera lens that I just recently bought.
Let me tell you, I used to really enjoy taking photos, it’s just that I’ve always had someone who would especially do this for me so I stopped taking photos myself. When I was filming with director Derek Yee, I listened to a lot of his theories and reasoning, and he said that there are a lot of things happening these days that can easily be forgotten but if you capture these moments with photos, you can bring them out at any time and remind yourself that at some point in time you went to some place and did something. I agree with his reasoning and think this is very true. Even though someone is already recording all this for me, documenting the things I do and the places I’ve been, but there are just too many events and too many things happening that even I get confused or forget what I did. One other thing, I’m currently the spokesman for Canon so I can easily buy some really good cameras, equipment, and lenses to take photos; for example, I bought a 200-300mm lens that I take with me everywhere. I must admit that this lens is a little heavy but at least I can use it to take photos wherever I go. The feeling is really nice and I enjoy every moment of it.
My two assistants walked me to the entrance of the restricted area and said their goodbyes before leaving. After they left, I went into the restricted area carrying my own bag on my back feeling lighthearted and carefree, completed immigration procedures, cleared airport security, and then made my way towards the waiting area. When it was nearly time to board the plane, I started heading towards the boarding gate and noticed a group of about 30 Canadian students who were waiting for their flight. They recognized me right away and were so excited that they all rushed towards me like a tidal wave. Right at this moment, an airline ground staff saw the situation and immediately offered to arrange for me to take an earlier flight. Of course I was very pleased to hear she could do this so I immediately said yes and accepted her offer. I gave her my plane ticket and she helped me rearrange my flight changes. By this time, the students were requesting to take photos with me, one after another, and also asking me for my autograph. I was happy to oblige but I knew if I started giving autographs, I wouldn’t be able to leave because behind the Canadian students, I saw a group of Koreans who were heading in my direction. In the end, I told them I was in a rush and had to catch my flight so I waved goodbye to them and then quickly left the boarding area. I went to the waiting lounge and waited for the boarding call. Time ticked by minute after minute. Seven o’clock, eight o’clock, nine o’clock and I was still waiting for the call. I started to wonder, why hasn’t anyone told me to board the plane yet? I couldn’t refrain from asking the customer service staff, when the plane would be boarding? They kept telling me “soon”. Finally, at 9:30, I was told I could board the plane.
I waited until after everyone had boarded the plane before being the last to get on the flight. As usual, I sat in my seat and started reading the newspaper. But while I was reading the paper, I noticed the airline crew walking up and down the aisles and quietly discussing something among themselves. Then an air hostess came up to me and told me that the flight had just been cancelled. I didn’t want to disturb other people on the plane so I quietly stood up, gathered my bags and grabbed my camera. By the time I was about to leave, a lot of passengers were already looking at me. I think they were wondering why I was travelling alone and getting off the plane by myself.
After I got off the plane, I didn’t know where to go so I called my assistant to come and pick me up, and then I made a few inquiries to see whether I could be booked on another flight, asked where I should go to change my plane ticket, and other things like that. I have to say, I learned a lot of things on this trip. In the past, I didn’t have to worry about any of these problems, big or small, because I usually have an assistant with me. But this time, I didn’t have any assistants by my side and I had to personally handle these things myself. Suddenly I realized that I’m not that stupid after all and I am capable of handling these things alone, which made me feel very happy. But of course, I couldn’t handle these matters without the help from airline staff and as it turned out, not even one flight would be taking off for the rest of the day so all I could do was change my ticket.
After I changed my plane ticket, I wanted to call my assistant but the batteries in my cell phone went dead. Just then, I remembered that I packed my spare batteries in my checked-in luggage. So, I had to go and collect my luggage before I could get my spare batteries, meet up with my assistant, and then leave the airport.
By the time I got back home, it was already past midnight. The weather outside was terrible - wild winds and heavy rain. I saw my dog inside his kennel and I felt sorry for him because it was windy, it was pouring, and he was all wet from the rain. I decided to let him out of his kennel and he was so happy that he pounced on me, making my whole body damp and dirty. I then bathed him, dried his body, and arranged a nice dry place for him to sleep. By the time I went to bed, it was around 2:00 A.M.
I woke up at 6 o’clock in the morning and rushed to the airport again. At last, there was a flight, which meant I could continue with my original schedule. However, the flight ended up being delayed for an hour before it could take off. I nearly forgot to tell you something, when I arrived at the airport, the place looked like a sea full of faces. There were people everywhere. I think because a lot of flights were cancelled yesterday that is why there were so many tourists and passengers gathered at the airport trying to rearrange their flights.
This time, I decided to travel alone again. The staff in my office said to me, “Wouldn’t it be better if you had an assistant with you? If you travel alone and come across more flight problems, it could get very troublesome.” I said to them that it doesn’t matter and I still wanted to travel by myself.
Because my flight was delayed for an hour, by the time I arrived at Beijing, it was already 1:30 P.M. and I still hadn’t collected my luggage. I waited for half an hour and my luggage still didn’t come. I have to tell you what happened but I don’t think you will believe me – my luggage wasn’t loaded on with my flight! Originally, I was scheduled to attend the Mitsubishi press conference at 1 o’clock but of course I was late. I could only hope to try my best and rush to the conference as soon as possible.
Events in Beijing
On the way to the conference, I was stuck in a traffic jam and it took over 45 minutes just to travel 328 feet. After making it through the traffic, I finally arrived at the newest and biggest exhibition hall in the whole of Southeast Asia. This is the first time Mitsubishi exhibited these new car models in China. Because my luggage didn’t make it to Beijing, I didn’t have any clothes to change into so I could only attend the press conference wearing the track suit that I had on.

Do you see that I'm wearing the track suit I traveled in?

This is a very nice and environmentally friendly car.
At the press conference, I introduced three of Mitsubishi’s newest car models to the media. They were the tenth generation Evolution, Concept-RA (the newest model dream car), and the first generation environmentally friendly electronic hybrid car, i-MiEV. I was very happy to introduce this cute looking electronic hybrid car. I think that if everyone drove these hybrid cars, there would be less pollution and the quality of the air would greatly improve. Not only is this good for the environment, it will also benefit everyone’s health as well.
After the Mitsubishi press conference ended, I quickly rushed to attend an anti-piracy discussion forum where I met with the anti-piracy chairman, vice-chairman, and others, discussed ideas and exchanged opinions on the topic of anti-piracy. At the discussion forum, I saw Professor Yu Dan again. I was so happy. Many specialists and professionals attended this event and I was very pleased to hear everybody’s different views and suggestions. The government is also very supportive with striking back at piracy. We discussed the topic for nearly two hours and we came up with a lot of very useful and constructive ideas. Hopefully in the not too distant future, we can bring some good news to the heavily affected movie industry by totally eliminating piracy.
The Disciple Competition
After I finished all the work, I went back to the hotel and watched the video tapes of competitors from The Disciple competition. I think all my friends who have been reading my diaries will know about this program of finding a new star. We’re now in the stages of eliminating a contestant each week. To tell you the truth, I think all the competitors are very evenly matched and it’s getting hard for me to choose who should continue onto the next round and who should be eliminated. Every time I have to make this decision, I always find it very difficult. While I was watching the third episode, I felt very moved and touched. In this episode, two competitors (one male, one female) accidentally made an error while doing their performance and it resulted in them breaking a leg. Even though they were both injured but they still insisted on completing all the tasks and persevering to the end. When I injure myself, I never cry or shed a tear. But when I saw the contestants injure themselves, it wasn’t just me who had watery eyes, even the staff watching the video tapes with me had tears rolling down their cheeks because we all know how much hard work and effort they put into their performance and they never ever thought of giving up. We were all deeply touched by their steadfast spirit to continue till the end.

A lot of people say that children born in the 80s [in China] lack a sense of responsibility. Why is that? Children of this generation were brought up in an era of eating McDonalds and KFC, and watching Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. This is the general impression people have on the generation born in the 80s. The reason for describing them with these distinctive characteristics is because these were the dominant things that reminded people of the generation that was born during the time when China started to reform, open to the world, and when the economy started to develop and flourish. At the same time, people of this generation were the first in China to be born under the one child per family policy, which means that the majority of these people are the only child in the family.
Some people feel that compared to a traditional family household, the lifestyle of an only child is considered well-off because they have more material possessions and they don’t have to share with anyone else. An advantage of being an only child is that most of them have the opportunity to get a good education. And because they have a good educational background, when it comes to competing with other people, they have the ability to present themselves with extra self-confidence. Some people think that another advantage of being an only child is that they are very realistic and their competitive nature to succeed is extraordinary. Surveys have also shown that because they live in an enriched environment, being spoiled with material possessions over a long period of time, they have a very strong sense of self-esteem. And because they live under very few restrictions, one of the extremes of developing too much self-esteem is that they become very self-centered, especially when compared to those who are not an only child in the family. On top of that, a lot of [Chinese] people think that the personality of an only child is very stubborn, strong-willed, and also a little selfish.
Why did I start talking about people who were born in the 80s? Well, mainly because all the young competitors participating in The Disciple competition were born in this generation. Their performance during the competition has not only changed my views towards them, they have also changed the views of many other people as well. After going through this particularly strict training session, I was very impressed with how they performed and they handled the tough tasks very well. At first, we were all waiting to see who would be the first to pull out in the middle of the competition, but they were all determined to succeed and there was no sign of anyone giving up. I truly admire them all. Because of their hard work and efforts to do well, every time I watch them perform, I always give them my full attention and I make my selections carefully.
Off to Singapore
This morning I woke up and ate my favorite soup and rice, then I prepared to go to the airport so I could catch my flight to Singapore. I arrived at Changi airport in Singapore and I have to say, this airport is very beautiful. A lot of gardening work had been done around the surrounding areas. In this particular aspect, I think Hong Kong or even China could learn a few tips from Singapore. A lot of the time when I visit different places around the world, I see the good things being used in that country and whenever I see these advantages, I naturally hope that my own country can use other people’s strengths to make up for our own weaknesses. Please don’t think that I’m looking down at my own people, I only want to encourage my own people.

I took this photo to show you the trees inside the airport.
Singapore gives me the feeling of being in a city within a forest. As for Hong Kong, it’s true that the outer suburbs are very green with lots of trees, shrubs and flowers but when you’re in the city, it’s like you’re in a concrete jungle. There just isn’t enough greenery work being done. Anyway, I know that it takes time to improve a city and it takes talented people to run it well. Hong Kong and China have both the time and the people, so I believe it’s only a matter of time before the city turns into an even better, more beautiful place.

In Singapore there are a lot of these rooftop gardens. I took this photo to show you one that I thought was amazing.
Since I’m in Singapore, of course I had to visit my Jackie Chan Café. After visiting my cafe, I went and had two meetings.

Journey to India
After I finished my scheduled work in Singapore, I caught a connecting flight to India. When I arrived in India and walked out of the airport, I got such a surprise. I was overwhelmed to see so many people - it was like a sea of faces everywhere. With the help of security guards who surrounded me, I managed to make it through the crowd and into the car.
During this trip to India, I presented a check donation to a charity organization and I also attended the premier of a movie, invested by one of my friends. This friend of mine has been distributing my films for over thirty years now. He has always hoped to cooperate with me on a project so I made use of this opportunity and discussed with him what things we could do and the possibilities of working together in the future.

I watched the premier of the movie and was absolutely amazed after watching only twenty minutes of the film. The movie was filmed brilliantly. I was astonished. I had never imagined that Indian films were at such a high standard. The way they used the camera angles, how they set the lighting, everything about the film was done with great skill. I think filmmakers in Hong Kong and China have to keep working harder otherwise other people will start catching up or even overtake our standards.
While I was in India, I met up with Mallika Sherawat (the Indian actress in The Myth) who was very hospitable and took good care of me. She is a very warmhearted and gracious hostess.

Here I am with Mallika Sherawat.

One little Indian fan showing me his skills.

Another little fan.

Jackie with Mallika and actress Asin.
One thing I noticed during my stay in India is that they have some pretty serious traffic congestion problems. If you think the traffic jams in Shanghai or Beijing were bad, they are absolutely incomparable to the heavy congestions problems here in India.
People Talking Nonsense
I know that I talked about my India trip already in another diary, but I want to talk some more about what happened when I returned:
After being interviewed by media and reporters, I left India on the second day. However today, I heard some disturbing reports that made me extremely upset. The matter originated from an article written by Indian journalists who claimed that while I was India, I wouldn’t accept any interviews, and I wouldn’t drink their local water – only drinking my own bottled water. They also said that I refused to eat Indian food - only eating food prepared by a personal chef traveling with me. When I heard this news, my first reaction was: ridiculous, how ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous! How come the media has changed into something like this? While I was in India, I had two delicious Indian meals, every day I drank water provided by the hotel and I definitely didn’t bring my own water to drink. I honestly don’t understand why these rumors exist. The articles also wrote that no one was allowed to enter my hotel room without first making arrangements with Mallika, and security guards outside my room were armed with AK-47 guns. The article totally exaggerated whatever they could think of. And one other thing, they also said that I didn’t recognize any of the Indian stars. When I read these ridiculously false articles, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Let me honestly tell you, when I see an Indian movie star, I can definitely recognize them, it’s just that I don’t really know how to pronounce their Indian names properly, that’s all. I saw an Indian star and recognized him right away. He’s a legendary movie star in India and there isn’t anyone who doesn’t know him.

Amitabh Bachchan and me.

I signed autographs...

...gave interviews...

...and attended the audio launch.
I never denied the fact that I haven’t studied much. My highest education level is only at primary school second grade. It wasn’t until later on, because of the things I needed to do for work and knowing my own shortfalls, I started making an effort to continuously learn more things and expand my own knowledge, enabling me to communicate with many overseas reporters today. But this doesn’t mean that my verbal English is very good and that I can pronounce every word accurately. I know my own weaknesses and I don’t want to pronounce other people’s names incorrectly but I had never imagined that this would lead to people misunderstanding me, thinking that I didn’t recognize any of the local superstars because I didn’t say their names. This doesn’t really matter now. The truth will prove my innocence. I will not mind people writing these things about me, it’s just that it breaks my heart to see how irresponsible journalists are today, ignoring the most basic moral obligations as a reporter, and not asking me to get the facts right before writing all that nonsense. The things they write won’t have too much of an effect on me, but it will have a huge impact on their own reputation for providing dishonest and false reports.
After finishing all the work, I quickly rushed to the airport, caught the evening flight to Singapore and then transferred onto a connecting flight to Beijing. Okay now, I’ll talk to you some more when I arrive in Beijing. Bye bye.

Jones
來到印度,見到Mallika(《神話》裡的印度女演員),她很熱情的招待我。
