I couldn't sleep last night because there was constant thunder and lightning, and I couldn't help but worry about the charity concert. I hoped that the gods would be kind and the concert could take place smoothly. I was worried but because I had to be interviewed by someone from an American magazine the next day, I kept trying to make myself fall asleep. I don't know if you've experienced this, but the more I wanted to sleep the harder it was for me to. I was stuck in this state, tossing and turning in bed, counting sheep and even ants, and yet I still couldn't sleep. Eventually I slowly drifted to sleep.
The next time I opened my eyes was when my assistant came to get me out of bed. I checked my watch and it was 11:30am; I guess I slept around five hours. Even though I was tired I still got out of bed, showered, and got dressed to be ready for the interview. I would do my best because the interviewer came to Nanjing all the way from Chicago to do this interview with me. Thankfully the meeting place was in the conference room in my hotel, so I could save traveling time.

After being interviewed for over an hour I was scheduled to go to rehearsals. However, because of the heavy rain from yesterday (we'd had to rehearse with umbrellas in our hands) there were puddles of water everywhere around the venue. To ensure safety the organizers insisted on clearing all the puddles before letting any artist rehearse on stage. They also had to take down the lights and electronic equipment because they were worried that lightning would prove dangerous. I therefore had no choice but to wait in the hotel for news. This unexpected change gave me a chance to rest and I immediately went to bed.
When I woke up I walked into the hall in a daze. In the dark I vaguely saw a few people sleeping on long chairs. I guess there hadn't been any news and my assistants were tired, so I decided that I should also continue to catch up on sleep. When I was awakened by my assistant it was already past 4pm. I opened my eyes and opened the curtain, and I was so happy because I could see sunshine outside. I immediately got out of bed and got ready to go.

When I got to the Olympic Sport Center I could see signs that it had rained, but under the bright sun I believed that the rainwater would evaporate soon. I was rehearsing with a lot of my good friends from the mainland and Taiwan, including the MCs Cao Qi Tai and Hou Pe Cen, two newcomers named The VC Girls, Zhou Hui, Zhou Bi Chang, Po Shu, Zhang Yue, Power Station, Cao Ying, Lin Zhi Xuan, Jiang Yu Heng, Sha Bao Liang, and Korean beauty Zhang Na La. I am so grateful for their support because they all promised to find time in their busy schedules to come to the charity concert. Even though there is no reward they accepted my invitation immediately. It really touched me so much and I want to say "Thank you" once again. That extends to all the crew who was working in front of and behind the stage, because the rain increased everyone's workload and the audience did not witness what they had to do. But I know the hard work they put in and I must thank these behind-the-scenes heroes.
After rehearsing for an hour I rushed back to the hotel and got changed to prepare for the concert at night.

We played Three Dreams as a prelude to the concert. After Three Dreams introduced my charity work around the world with footage, I went on stage to meet the audience. I even joked with them, saying, "Dragons stop rain and tigers stop the wind. Look! The rain stopped as I stepped on stage!" making the audience laugh and clap. I confessed that I am not a professional singer, and I came to Nanjing to sing only for charity so I thought the audience would forgive me. All proceeds from this concert will be given to the "Loving Capital: Fortune Elders Construction" and would build a Dragon's Heart Fortune Elderly Residence.

Midway through the concert there was a check exchange ceremony, and apart from donations from sponsors I personally donated 2 million dollars plus when we were at the venue I took out 1,000RMB and placed it into the donation box, hoping to be an example to the audience to give generously. The American who interviewed me for the magazine and followed me around for two days covering the events saw all the charity work I was doing, and he was deeply touched. During the concert he gave a US$10,000 check as a donation. I was so extremely happy because I once again influenced someone else to do charity.

Afterwards I premiered the music video of Rob-B-Hood to the audience, and I told the audience that since making Rob-B-Hood I realized how tough it was to carry a child. The mothers of this world are so great, and during the filming I deeply understood their sacrifices. I wrote a song called "The Sacrifices of Parents" (Theme from Rob-B-Hood) for all the parents in the world. Unfortunately during the playback there was a problem with the machinery, and the Nanjing audience could not watch the whole music video. Hopefully I will have another chance to show you all another time.
Afterwards, I went on stage with Jiang Yu Heng and Lin Zhi Xuan and performed a newly arranged "True Hero" and this song wrapped up the concert. Even though it was pouring down with rain in the morning, thankfully the heavens granted our wish, and the 2006 Jackie Chan and Friends Nanjing concert was completed without any problems. I took sixteen friends and gave the 50,000 audience members in Nanjing a fantastic night, and raised over 10 million RMB for charity.

After the concert I returned to the hotel's ballroom to have a wrap celebration with the local officials, all the performing artists, all the crew, and sponsors. Even though the concert was over, I was unable to relax yet because tomorrow I would have to take an early flight to Harbin to prepare for the next leg of the charity concert.
After the wrap party a few good friends came to my room to chat. They were drinking beer and were still talking about the concert excitedly. I really wanted to tell them that I had to rest because I still had the Harbin concert to deal with. But to see them so happy I didn't have the heart to tell everyone to leave. After everyone had gone it was already 4am, but I had to meet with everyone at 6am the next morning to head to the airport. I didn't think too much; I just got ready to go so I could rest during travel.
